July tats: elephant earrings and a coaster

Hello! Just wanted to share the last two projects I finished, the first being a little pair of earrings tatted in variegated size 70 Oren Bayan thread, with elephant pendants and silver clasps. I've always loved this pattern but this is the first time I've made a pair! I bought this thread specifically to make the red-black combination for my mom since it's one of her favorites. I might make a bracelet to go with it in the future... but for now I'm happy with how they turned out, and so is she :3 Hope she enjoys her little present.

Wish I could credit the original designer but I've seen this pattern on Pinterest credited to different people...so oh well. Thanks to whoever designed it though! It's a beautiful pattern and it's lovely to tat.

And as for the other project, it's Handy Hands' Simple Medallion or Coaster by Kendra Goodnow. The first picture is of one of my first ever tatting projects, back when I still did needle tatting with size 8 pearl cotton.

The needle size wasn't exactly right which led to it turning out much bigger than it should've been...And I've wanted to tat it again ever since. So now, as a more experienced shuttle tatter I decided to give it another try. Thread is...supposed to be for macrame, though it's spun quite similarly to my size 20 DMC tatting thread, and all the size 70 OB tatting threads I have, so I thought it'd work nicely? I'd say it's thicker than a size 10 but thinner than a size 3. The result was much stiffer, probably due to the fact that I'm quite the tight tatter when I shuttle tat. The joints are much better made, and it just feels much more polished all the way around! Funnily enough, they turned out around the same size since the first one was tatted so loosely...

I intend to tat this pattern again in a few months to see how much I've progressed.

left: needle tatted when I first started around 8 months ago... right: just finished, shuttle tatted :)

Aaaand that's all I have for today.  Happy tatting and have a nice day!

Hello, fellow tatters! + little dragon! 🐉

Heya! :3 So I decided to start a blog after being inspired by so many tatters on the platform, I hope I can document my own tatting journey here and learn from more experienced ppl in the community :D

I started tatting about 8 months ago and it quickly became one of my favorite mediums ever, I'm an avid crocheter and cross stitcher so tatting felt like a nice addition to that list. For those curious, what got me into the craft was the rose earring pattern (in blue variegated thread, pic below). I'm also really interested in bobbin and needle lace, beadwork of all kinds, card weaving (hope to try the technique myself soon, I might post if it happens), amigurumi and micro-crochet, clay modeling, diamond painting, video games, language learning and lps pets ✨

favorite pattern, perhaps

My latest finished piece is Anne Bruvold's Flying Minor Norwegian Dragons 🐉. The pattern was brought to my attention by this month's PTG meeting. I started it during the meeting and it took me about 3 afternoons to complete. The pattern itself is very fun to tat, and it turned out like this:

thread is similar to a DMC 50/60 I believe

And here are a few other pretty things I've tatted:

I'll be posting more tatting content shortly. Thank you for reading and welcome to the spider stitcher!
